Carlisle Futsal Club have today bolstered their goalscoring options with their fourth and fifth signings of the season adding Carlisle City FCs potent strike force Rob McCartney, 20 and Marc Shiel, 27.
Both players have been scoring for fun in the Northern Alliance League this season against a good standard of opposition. Shiel recently bagged six goals in one game and leads the way in the goal scoring charts on 18, whilst McCartney is a close second with 15 for the season.
Former Gretna trainee McCartney had the honour of being voted Carlisle City FCs young player of the year 2014 and is looking forward to the Futsal challenge ‘I’ve always enjoyed 5 aside and 6 aside football because of the pace and the element of flare involved but the trials were the first time I had tried futsal. Its a bit different but it does share the pace and flare that i love. I feel I can help the team out with scoring some goals.’
Shiel is currently recovering from injury and was frustrated not to be part of the recent training session, instead he was an interested onlooker ‘Im looking forward to getting involved its tough sitting and having to watch when you want to be on there playing.’
Two further announcements are expected before the end of the week on new signings which will bring the current recruitment campaign to an end ahead of transfer deadline day on 31st January.
