Carlisle Futsal Club can now confirm that it has been promoted to Tier 2 of the Futsal pyramid in England and will compete in the National Futsal Series Two for the 2021/22 season.
After gaining promotion to the National Futsal League Premiership North at the end of the 2019/20 season it had been envisaged that the Club would continue to compete at Tier 3 for the coming season where, due to our location, it was felt that the competition model was the best fit for our Club. However, following an internal review at the Club, discussions with the NFS and a successful application process the decision has been made to instead compete in The National Futsal Series for the coming season. This will provide the Club with the best opportunity to realise its ambitions over the next 10 years.
The move will see the Club become members of the FA’s elite Club competition that launched last season consisting of 8 clubs at Tier 1 and 16 Clubs at Tier 2. The Tier 1 Clubs battle it out to become English Champions and with it secure a place in the illustrious UEFA Futsal Champions League.
Club Chairman Martin Taylor believes this is the right move at the right time for everyone.
‘The National Futsal Series, as a competition, is all about raising standards both on and off the court. This is the same approach we have taken in growing our Club and also Futsal across the county over the years, so this feels right for the Club. There is an assessment process with strict criteria to meet for the NFS, so to be successful in our application is a real moment of pride. This puts us amongst the best Clubs in the country, which given our work off the court over the years, is where we feel we belong.
Our volunteers have worked tirelessly to establish a strong academy programme since 2012 which now covers the whole county so we know that we have the best Futsal talent coming through locally. This will be the foundation for our success on the court over the coming seasons. The standard of our play on the court will continue its rapid rise, as our first team players gain more experience playing at this higher level. With the added emergence of our first crop of academy players in the next 18 months, this promotion comes at a perfect time.
The people of Carlisle and Cumbria are passionate about sport and this brings another high-quality competition to the county that our fans can get really excited about.’
