Renowned Middlesbrough academy pushed all the way

On the 5th December under 13s Academy coach Luke Miller took a squad of 10 accross to Middlesbrough for their first competitive Futsal match. The squad was made up of players recruited through the clubs academy classes which are currently held on Sunday afternoons at Cumbria University and are open to all. More details can be found under the Futsal Classes section of the menu to the left.

Middlesbrough Futsal Clubs academy system is arguably the best in the country, so the fixture provided a tough test for the newly formed Carlisle Futsal Club Academy Squad.

Carlisle started the game well and took control early when on 2 minutes Ellis Monoghan grabbed his first goal for the club following a burst of pace and a cheeky finish making it 1-0. But Boro hit back minutes later with some neat play utilising the width of the court and a superb square ball to Boros tall target who slotted home. Carlisle Captain for the day Pagin was caught in possesion from the restart and Boro nearly grabbed their second but Pagin showed great desire in winning the ball back. Pagin then drove forward setting up an attacking move started by a one-two triangle pass with Monoghan, followed by an incisive pass into space to find Kieron foster who fired home in the 6th minute. Carlisle had the momentum and struck again when a superb lob pass over the boro defence found Foster who volleyed home to make it 3-1 Carlisle. And Carlisle werent finished there, Foster grabbed another just before the half time whistle.

On the restart Middlesbrough pulled themselves back into the game with three quick goals to draw level. Carlisle replied through Foster who picked up another making it 5-4 Carlisle with 10 minutes to go. Boro then continued their fight back and replied with the equaliser and then took the lead shortly after with some great Futsal play exploiting some space in the middle of the court. Carlisle began to tire and Middlesbrough added a couple of goals before the final whistle with the final score Middlesbrough Futsal Club u14s 8 Carlisle Futsal Club u13s 5.

Academy Coach Luke miller said after the game ‘The boys conducted themselves fantastically, they represented everything this club stands for, living and promoting our values and applying what they had learnt over the previous weeks in a match situation. Weve taken on an older age group here from the best academy in the country and we pushed them all the way. They’ve not only done the club proud but have done themselves and their families proud. There will be lots more opportunities to compete and in 2014. We will be taking squads to compete in tournaments against the best in the country and will be hostin a few ourselves. I would also like to say a big thank you to the parents that travelled for their support.’

2014 will see the continued expansion of the clubs academy programme. Anyone interested in learning how to play Futsal and wanting to represent Carlisle should sign up to our Academy classes. These are open to age groups 4-16. Any adults wanting to get involved we have lots of coaching, officiating and volunteering opportunities with the club across all age groups.
