Carlisle Futsal Club are delighted to announce that not one but two of our Academy Coaches have been offered full time Futsal coaching roles with leading Italian Futsal Club, former Champions, Città di Montesilvano Calcio a 5.
Jon Reay and Darren Gaffney current head coaches for our u8 and u10 academy squads were offered the jobs after impressing Montesilvano Head Coach Pepe Maiale at a coaching clinic back in 2016. The pair will join the academy of the former UEFA Futsal Cup winners for the 2017/18 season and will spend at least 12 months leading one of the Montesilvano academy teams together.
Jon, Carlisle Futsal Clubs most experienced coach, has been coaching and playing Futsal since 2012. He captained the men’s senior team in the FA Futsal Super League and has played an instrumental part in taking the Club to where it is today. He is delighted to have been offered the opportunity ‘Daz and I met Pepe last year whilst coaching and we hit it off straight away and have kept in touch ever since. I never expected to be offered something like this, it has really come out of the blue. Its an opportunity we cant really turn down.’
Daz, who has been with the Club for three years, has done a brilliant job with his academy squad and has become a pupil of the game in that time. He is looking forward to the challenge and experiencing the Italian culture ‘Its brilliant eh, this is what i love about Futsal. Its a great community where everyone wants to help each other and you get opportunities in this sport that you wouldn’t normally expect. Its a great chance to learn another language as well as develop more Futsal knowledge and my coaching skills.’
The pair will spend the year living, working and coaching in the small town just North of Pescara.
Pepe Maiale believes the pair have a great future in Futsal and sent us a quote which translates roughly as ‘I am a very good to be a working with Jonny and Darron. They a displaya good ability at the a coaching and I am a really looking a forward to introduce them to the fanos of Montesilvano.’
Club Chairman Al Tindall commented ‘Losing Jon and Daz is a massive blow but we expect them both to return and bring back a wealth of Futsal experience and knowledge to pass on. I wish them the best of luck, this is the reason we set the Club up so that people can take these kind of opportunities. Good luck to you both or as they say in Italy pesce d’aprile!’
