Defensive Fundamentals

Dr Daniel Berdejo-del-Fresno was born in 1982 and grew up in Utebo (Zaragoza, Spain).

Daniel studied for a PE Teaching Degree at the University of La Rioja (Spain) and completed an Exercise and Sport Science Degree and Masters at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain). He also completed a PhD between the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) and Manchester Metropolitan University (UK).

Like every Spanish child, Daniel started to play futsal at a young age for his home team A.D. Utebo Futbol Sala and also played in the school playgrounds which all have outdoor futsal courts. Daniel stopped playing futsal at around 13-14 years old to focus on his running career but kept his relationship with futsal by attending his local club games to watch his brother play and then subsequently starting his futsal coaching education at the age of 16-17.

Once Daniel moved to England for his PhD scholarship, he started to work for Manchester Futsal Club and, from then up to now, he is making his living as a full time coach. Daniel has been lucky enough to visit many countries with his passion, has met many good coaches to learn from and has also had time to write scientific papers about futsal and even two books to share all his experiences and ideas.
